A captivating view of colors and light;
A wink of his eye, a quiver of his lips.
A tear from her eyes, their warm embrace.
A beauty painted by life, viewed under lenses
– captured by the shutter.
Kept in a dark-infested room,
Until such magnificence is caught on paper.
I grab ahold of it,
Stared at it.
Suddenly, mesmerized as I
– the lady whose tear fell –
remembered the feeling…
I held it close to my heart,
kept it.
One.
Five.
Ten.
Twenty.
Times I changed my calendar.
My hair is graying now,
my skin wrinkling.
I pull an old book of poems,
and a photograph fell from it.
I am taken aback as I marvel at the familiar place,
and the man with a younger version of myself.
A man I still remember,
but the feelings seems strange now.
Memories linger,
like the love we once felt.
But like photographs,
love fades…
In time.

Love this. It’s amazing how one simple photo can evoke so many memories and feelings in an instant. All my photos are digital now, but I want to go right now and print out every single one!

I do have a set of digital photos I wanna have printed out too. Sometimes, we feel that photographs are necessary to remind us of someone, or something… But as years pass, it is surprising that we no longer feel the same about it.
Thank you for your kind words and I appreciate the visit. 🙂 Happy Rally.

Thanks Rhyme… I always believed that only love can last forever. But something happened to me that made me see otherwise. I am glad you liked it.

Love fades…..until those moments surface again, an old photo, the sound of laughter, the smell of rain, the taste of strawberries, and the list goes on. Thanks for reminding me of another puzzle piece.

Well, I would agree on this. I had a love I thought was lost to me forever, a love I thought faded along with the promises, but seeing those smiles after 6 long painful years, I realized that the love was never gone, it was just suppressed from within.
I am glad that people go through the same ordeal as I am, it reminds me that I am normal. 😀

Wow! I loved this poem-story.
To be honest it is the best I´ve read tonight… how come memories hurt even more than the act itself when it happened?
Thanks for sharing, hope you´ll win.

Thank you so much.
That is the same thing I was wondering about. How can one fragment of memory bring so much pain? -sigh-

I always equated love to a flower; “…(it) will slowly wilt and die, but one that will blosom with the right nourishment.” I think we choose what love we will let fade (or hope will fade) and what love we will cling to and continually enter the dark room to redevelop over and over again at the slightest sign of discolorment.
Very moving piece. Made me a little sad, but loved the picture the last few lines painted.

I agree on that… But love can also be compared to a rock… 🙂

It’s a lovely poem. I’m not sure that love fades with time, but that may be only my experience. I can certainly relate to the desire.
